Over the years, JD Edwards has made significant usability improvements, yet it is still no match for the intuitive user experience found in applications such as Microsoft Teams. While JD Edwards serves as a robust ERP system with inherent complexity and Microsoft Teams operates primarily as a collaborative platform, comparing them directly at first may seem like comparing apples to oranges.
However, wouldn’t it be great to use Microsoft Teams as a channel to seamlessly interact with JD Edwards? With the introduction of Orchestrator by the Oracle JD Edwards team, the system was adeptly opened up to the outside world for direct, internal integration. So we tried to envision the possibilities and explore new, radical ways to interact with JD Edwards through our innovative solution OrchestratorBot.
OrchestratorBot is a no-code platform designed to empower you to develop custom applications leveraging your existing Orchestrations built within the JD Edwards Orchestrator Studio. Below, you’ll discover a comprehensive overview of the solution.
OrchestratorBot offers versatile accessibility, seamlessly functioning across browsers, native mobile applications, and integration with popular platforms like Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp (Business), Microsoft Outlook and Gmail.
In this blog post, we look deeper into the extensive Microsoft Teams capabilities. OrchestratorBot is readily available as an add-in within Microsoft Teams, ensuring a truly native experience. This integration enables features such as the Activity notifications to seamlessly operate within OrchestratorBot’s workflows, enhancing real-time engagement and efficiency.
When the app is launched, you will get a main screen like in below screenshot:
You will see the application menus which are completely customisable. Whether end users require access to a select few or a comprehensive set of flows, the menu can be personalized accordingly. In our demonstration environment, we showcase an expanded range of menus and flows, offering a broader glimpse into the platform’s capabilities 😉.
Alongside these menus, you’ll have direct visibility into your activity:
Our solution includes a fully customizable dashboard option, allowing for tailored configurations based on the user’s role. This enables the creation of optimized sets of dashboard tiles, ensuring that each user accesses the most relevant and impactful information.
Access the Audit Trail which provides visibility into transactions, results, error messages, and more for comprehensive tracking and review.
End users can check the scheduler status and manage it directly by viewing, starting or pausing their jobs directly from the Microsoft Teams interface.
Additionally, you can conveniently access and take action on your notification messages, including reviewing approvals or other critical data directly from this interface, ensuring swift and informed decision-making.
Of course possibilities are limitless as these same flows can seamlessly operate across multiple platforms simultaneously! Additionally, these flows can leverage fully integrated applications such as Google Maps.
For instance, in the depicted flow below, users can input contact information and addresses by using Google Maps. This data will by directly integrated into JD Edwards, aligning with the JD Edwards standardized address format.
Given the extensive use of Microsoft Teams in the office environment, we see notable customer demand in flows around various approvals processes, managing Address Book entries, facilitating order and item creation, and last but not least, easily viewing your Work With Submitted Jobs statuses and output details.
